Survivors Find Hope at The Rose Home

Human trafficking takes a lot from a person – their safety, their sense of self-worth, and even their hopes for the future. At the Rose Home we use vision boards to encourage the women to reclaim their future and to begin to dream big again. When each new survivor feels settled into The Rose Home, she sits down with a coach to create her very own vision board. The vision board helps her imagine what she wants her life to look like and how it could possibly happen. When it’s finished, a coach hangs the vision board in her room so she can see it every day. On the hard days when nothing seems to be going right, she can...

Signs of Possible Human Trafficking

Human trafficking is tough to spot. Just because you don’t notice it doesn’t mean it’s not happening. Four signs that could indicate someone is being trafficked are 1) Lack of control, 2) Abnormal behavior, 3) Poor mental health, and 4) Poor physical health. Lack of control could look like… Restricted or controlled communication with others A lack of personal space or appearing to be closely monitored A teen or pre-teen with overly sexualized behavior for their age A brand or tattoo of a name, barcode, or symbol Abnormal behavior could look like… Fearing law enforcement Being unaware of what city they’re in due to frequent relocations Wearing expensive items they weren’t able to afford before Exhibiting hypervigilant behavior Having a new, older...

Human Trafficking in Wisconsin

Human trafficking happens out in the open, right in public, and many people don’t realize that it’s happening. We are on a mission to change that. Imagine a place where somebody on every block knows the signs of human trafficking and acts when they see it. Imagine how trafficking would go from hidden in plain sight to obvious--in plain sight. Imagine how, one by one, traffickers would be identified and arrested. Imagine how survivors would find support at Eye Heart World, face their trauma, and build the lives they want to live. The more people know about trafficking, the more people are on the lookout for this modern-day slavery. We are passionate about raising awareness about human trafficking. There are 3...

May Newsletter from Wisconsin

Survivors at Work The Rose Home is our holistic program designed to fully prepare survivors of sex trafficking to live independently. Workforce preparation is very important to us because a good job is essential to an independent life. It’s why we help survivors build the skills they need to earn a living and follow their dreams. We’re excited to let you know that two of our participants are using their skills at local jobs!   One survivor recently got a job and started training in the end of May. She said they just threw her into the job, but because she had prior experience at a similar job, she felt like it was second nature. She is very excited to...

April Newsletter from Wisconsin

April was Sexual Assault Awareness Month. People who experience sexual assault are more vulnerable to become victims of sex trafficking. We care about preventing sexual assault. Change You Can See When we shared how Micah at Northern Tide Tattoo helps survivors of sex trafficking, we were overwhelmed at the response! Every time we meet a survivor with a brand from a trafficker, he offers to cover it with a new tattoo—completely for free. One participant at The Rose Home had a black brand. Now it's completely obscured by brightly-colored lotus flowers, thanks to Micah. The survivor chose lotus flowers because they can grow in the mud. The tattoo reminds her of being a flower growing into something beautiful despite her childhood...
