March Newsletter from Wisconsin

HEALING INSIDE & OUT AT THE ROSE HOME Two new participants joined The Rose Home this month! One is a returning participant who was not ready to complete the program before. We’re so glad to welcome her back! One participant attended her first tattoo consultation to cover up a brand from her trafficker. Traffickers use brands to claim ownership over a person and dehumanize them, and that message can stick with a survivor. When we asked this participant what her brand means to her, she said, “It makes me feel like I’m still stuck in the past.” Even though this survivor lives at The Rose Home now, her brand was a physical marker of the trafficking and addiction she fought...

November Newsletter from Wisconsin

The Rose Home has had a busy month! We can’t wait to tell you about our participants, events happening around The Rose Home, and how our Outreach team is changing lives. BIRTHDAY WISHES One participant celebrated a birthday in November! The participant loves to create art, so some of the coaches threw her an art-themed party with plenty of crafts. The activities included painting small tiles, making easels out of colored popsicle sticks, and decorating cupcakes with sprinkles and candy. Other homemade treats included a confetti cake and pretzels and rice crispy treats dipped in colored frosting to look like paint brushes. One of the coolest parts of birthdays is that they highlight how much support the girls at The...

October Newsletter for Wisconsin

The Rose Home turned one year old on October 10! Our first participant to stay at the home has been in the home for one year and is officially one year sober. We are so proud of how far she has come! The other girls in The Rose Home surprised her with her 1-year medallion and cupcakes to celebrate. You can read more about the one-year celebration here. Our Outreach Team had a very busy October. We had five new referrals in just one week--a new record for us! When our referral numbers go up, it can seem like trafficking is increasing in the area, but that’s not the case; it just means that we are reaching more people who...

Summer Newsletter from Wisconsin

The Rose Home The Rose Home has been in full swing all summer! The girls and coaches have been continuing their day-to-day activities, such as therapy and goal setting. The garden has continued to be a wonderful addition to The Rose Home. The girls have been able to harvest, prepare, and eat plenty of organic cucumbers, onions, zucchini, and jalapenos. There are also tomatoes, broccoli, and four tiny watermelons! The girls take great pride in their urban garden. The ladies at The Rose Home took a day trip up north to Camp Bird, where they enjoyed some group activities and team-building exercises. They did “trust falls” from about a 5ft tall tree stump. One of the ladies said she felt a weight was lifted...

Home for Christmas

This time of year, it’s almost impossible to not be bombarded with a barrage of Christmas music. Just the other day I was in a store and heard "Baby, It's Cold Outside" three times, back to back, all different versions… It’s a bit much.  But we all love it - or want to love it - because this time of year is so special.  One song that elicits warm emotions, sad emotions, or even both at the same time is “I’ll Be Home For Christmas”. No matter which side of that fence you sit on, the song is inescapable.  For some people it brings back fond memories and builds childlike anticipation of the warmth that family brings and the security of...
